GANDHI JAYANTI - 2021

2nd October – National Holiday!

The day is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti to honour and pay gratitude to the father of nation. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2nd October,1869 in Porbandar, Gujrat, India.

One of the great patriot of India’s Independence Movement, Mahatma Gandhi was the main demonstrator of non-violent civil disobedience. His leadership on India’s Independence Movement compelled the british rulers to move out of India.

Besides Indian freedom struggle he also fought against pre-existing Indian caste system and untouchability. His idea of Ahinsa and Swaraj are observed across all over India. In his honour United Nations General Assembly announced 2nd October as ‘International Day of Non-violence’.

The day is celebrated not only in India but across the world to remember his belief in non-violence even under the worst circumstances and insuperable challenges through which India get freedom.
